Moose (W-02-03) in Chicago, Illinois

Chicago’s Michigan Avenue isn’t considered the “Magnificent Mile” for nothing. A stretch along the street plays home to shops galore, restaurants, skyscrapers, and river views that keep tourists coming back. But alongside business and pleasure there is a wacky side to the street that showcases some of the silliest sites Chicago has to offer. Yesterday I presented the Jack Brickhouse Statue and today we’ll meet his neighbor, a large, chrome, antlered moose! The sculpture, titled “Moose (W-02-03),” has stood proudly across from the Wrigley Building since 2006.

The artwork was created by artist John Kearney between 2002 and 2003 and was part of the Chicago Cultural Center’s Artists & Automobiles event. Between June and October public art displays featuring works made from recycled car parts. This moose sculpture was made from chrome bumpers and survived past the program, still watching guard over the Mag Mile today.
