VIDEO: Road Trip to Hyder, Alaska

To round out the week, and one of the most amazing road trips ever, here’s a video montage of the road trip to Hyder, Alaska! An extra special thanks to Brian, Tim, and Rose for this wonderful trip! (I actually had no part in planning this vacation – it was all them!)

And another thanks to the amazingly talented Will Nealy who has written and recorded the brand spanking new Silly America theme song!!! You can hear the instrumental version here…and once my video skills get a little more up to snuff to be worthy of his incredible song I’ll be debuting the full version! Hopefully not too far in the future!

Bear Glacier

OK so I lied. I totally didn’t have time on Friday (or yesterday) to blog what I wanted to blog! So sorry, but as a special Sunday treat I’m going to feature what was promised: Bear Glacier!

Bear Glacier in British Columbia, Canada.

Now, I know this website is called “Silly America” and this is neither silly nor in America (although Canada is in North America…so it counts!) any traveler has to pause to take in all the sites and sometimes there are things that you should never pass up seeing!

Bear Glacier in British Columbia, Canada.

Bear Glacier lies on Highway 37A towards Stewart in British Columbia. It is one of few blue glaciers and is the easiest accessed blue glacier in the world.

Unfortunately you can definitely see the effects of global warming. The glacier once reached much further down, filling the entire Bear River Pass. In the 1940′s, however, the glacier began to melt and retreated, forming Strohn Lake which lies below. In 1967 it retreated more and continues to this day.

In any case, the glacier and its marvelous color is simply breathtaking and am amazing (and completely un-Silly) site to see!
